The Feeding Center, located in the heart of Addis Ababa, the nation’s capital, provides a hot lunch to the needy every day except Sunday. Being the only soup kitchen in the country, it reaches out to the poorest of the poor including children and mothers through a meal ticket system, which well doers buy and give to the needy in lieu of cash. The needy can then exchange their ticket for a meal. The proceeds from a ticket sale cover a fourth of the cost while the rest is covered by donations. Over 200,000 meals are served every year. The cost to provide a person with lunch for a month is USD 6.00.
