Determined to assist people in ways that can enable their
own sustainability, HOPE Enterprises introduced a number
of ways by which farmers that are displaced due to drought
can be sustained as a family within their own holdings and
rebound when the weather improves. HOPE engages in livestock
and seed distribution and promotes harvested water-based
intensive farming on an area less than a hectare (2.47 acres).
With a tailored variety of interdependent initiatives, 9000
farmers in three districts in South Wollo Zone are being
assisted. Plans are under way to extend this service to
other drought prone areas. The cost to provide seeds to
a farmer for one planting season is USD 36.
