Many beneficiaries are not in a position to attend school
or receive formal education. HOPE recognizes this and has
started two programs to bring education to the needy in
a non-school setting. Over 600 street children receive breakfast
each weekday morning at the HOPE feeding center in Addis
Ababa. After breakfast, the children are counseled and receive
non-formal education, such as basic literacy and survival
skills. HOPE also runs evening basic education classes (reading,
writing, math) for over 100 domestic home-care workers in
Addis Ababa, who are not able to attend schools due to financial
or work constraints. The cost of supporting non-formal education
is $1.00 USD per month per person.
