Nutrition
Nutrition is essential for a good performance at school. Sponsored children are guaranteed of at least a small breakfast or snack and one good meal a day. This has to be not only starch but also vitamins, minerals, and protein and in adequate quantities: vegetables, fruits, eggs, meat, etc.
Health care
It is very essential that every child, at the time of admission to the home/school, has to undergo a careful medical examination by a doctor and a dentist to spot immediately all contagious and dangerous diseases if any. Further the weight and the height of each child should be taken regularly. A health record of each child should be kept, and a general medical and dental checkup of all inmates of the home/school should be arranged for at the beginning of the school year. In cases of accidents and sudden severe diseases the person in charge of the home/school is responsible for the concerned child (ren) being taken to a good doctor/dentist/hospital for treatment. At all times every child should have access to sustainable and safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in or around the school / centre
Clothing
Each sponsor child should receive annually at least one set of clothing (school uniform) and, if necessary, a sleeping mat and blankets. Staff checks the need to assist where necessary to ensure the clothing is not damaged or dirty.
Safety
A safe environment is essential for children to learn and to become adults. Part of the sponsorship program is that the children will be in a safe environment during activities. Dependent on the local context, it might be necessary to provide additional care to children in this matter. Children should be taught and equipped to be aware of and to deal with violence, unsafely and crime they might face in their context. Partners are requested to conduct a security and protection assessment in order to find out which measures are necessary
